Basketweave takes two threads at a time in each direction, which builds a small raised grid across the surface. You see it from across the room and you feel it under your hand. The fringe is knotted rather than cut, so it will not unravel in the machine.

You want texture in the room without adding a pattern.
Materials + Care

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Wash separately for the first few cycles: deep and saturated colours release a little dye at first. Do not bleach, do not dry clean.

Textured weaves such as seersucker, waffle and gauze are meant to look relaxed: they need no ironing, and they soften with every wash.

Textured weaves need a cotton with body. The relief is built from the thread itself, so a limp yarn gives a flat, disappointing cloth however good the loom.

The relief becomes more pronounced over the first few washes as the yarn relaxes. Tumble dry low. Do not iron; flattening the grid is the one way to spoil it.

Questions about this fabric

Is waffle scratchy?

No. The relief is soft to the touch; it is texture, not roughness.

Does it snag?

The raised grid can catch. Keep it away from Velcro and rough jewellery.

Warm or cool?

Warmer than a flat weave, because the pockets hold air. It is the throw you reach for in October.
