Details

Sateen puts four threads on the surface for every one underneath, and that is where the sheen comes from (the weave, not a coating). At 600 threads in Egyptian long-staple cotton it feels cool for the first minute and then warms with you. It will not pill, because there are no short fibres to pill.

Materials + Care

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Wash separately for the first few cycles: deep and saturated colours release a little dye at first. Do not bleach, do not dry clean.

Textured weaves such as seersucker, waffle and gauze are meant to look relaxed: they need no ironing, and they soften with every wash.

Shipping + Returns

Free shipping on orders over $99. Orders leave our warehouse within 1–2 business days, Monday to Friday. You'll get a tracking number as soon as it ships.

Free returns for 60 days. Sleep on it, literally. If it isn't right, start a return from your account and we'll send you a prepaid label. Items should come back in a re-sellable condition.

Wrong size? We'll exchange it, and we cover the shipping both ways.

The fabric

Sateen

Four threads over, one under. The sheen comes from the weave, not from a coating.

Cotton, and why the staple matters

Cotton, and why the staple matters

Sateen only works in long-staple cotton. The weave floats long lengths of thread across the surface, and short fibres would break and pill within months. That is why a cheap sateen goes bad quickly and a good one does not.

Egyptian Cotton Sateen Duvet Cover, Where the shine comes from

Where the shine comes from

Putting four threads on the face for every one underneath makes a surface that reflects rather than scatters light. Nothing is added to the cloth. It is denser than percale, so it feels cool for the first minute and then warms with you.

Keep it away from heat

Keep it away from heat

Wash warm, dry low. High heat is the one thing that dulls sateen, because it roughens the floating threads that make the sheen. No ironing needed.

Questions about this fabric

Is sateen the same as satin?

No. Satin is a weave made with filament fibres, usually silk or polyester. Sateen is the same weave structure in cotton. Ours is cotton, always.

Will it be too warm in summer?

It is denser than percale, so it holds a little more warmth. If you wake up too hot, percale or linen will suit you better.

Does the sheen wash out?

Not from washing. It dulls from heat, so dry on low and it will keep its face for years.
