Cotton, and why the staple matters
Washing is done at the mill, on the finished cloth, with enzymes that break down the surface of the fibre very slightly. It takes the starch out and leaves a matte, chalky hand that new cotton never has.

For a bed that looks drawn by hand, not printed by a machine.
A printed stripe that looks painted with a loose brush: every band wavers a little, so the bed reads relaxed rather than graphic. The cotton is washed after weaving, so it starts soft and keeps a light crinkle that never needs ironing.
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Wash separately for the first few cycles: deep and saturated colours release a little dye at first. Do not bleach, do not dry clean.
Textured weaves such as seersucker, waffle and gauze are meant to look relaxed: they need no ironing, and they soften with every wash.
Free standard shipping on orders over $99. Standard delivery takes 6 to 10 business days, priority 5 to 8. You'll get a tracking number as soon as your order ships.
Free returns for 60 days. Sleep on it, literally. If it isn't right, start a return from your account and we'll send you a prepaid label. Items should come back in a re-sellable condition.
Wrong size? We'll exchange it, and we cover the shipping both ways.
The fabric
Cotton that has been through the wash before you own it, so it arrives already soft.

Washing is done at the mill, on the finished cloth, with enzymes that break down the surface of the fibre very slightly. It takes the starch out and leaves a matte, chalky hand that new cotton never has.

The wash also does the shrinking before the cloth is cut. A duvet cover that has not been pre-washed can lose two inches in its first cycle at home, which is how covers end up too small for the insert.

It comes out looking lived-in, which is the whole idea. Nothing to iron, nothing to fuss over. It softens a little more over the first year, then settles.
No, but it borrows the part people want: the dry hand and the relaxed fall, without the first year of stiffness and without the price.
It should not. The shrinking is done before the cloth is cut. Wash warm rather than hot and it will stay true.
Softly, yes. It is meant to. If you want a smooth bed, choose percale or sateen.
