Details

A 400-thread cotton that has been through the wash before you own it, which takes the starch out and leaves a matte, chalky surface. It is the white that photographs badly and looks wonderful in a room, because it has texture instead of shine.

  • 400-thread-count cotton, garment-washed
  • Matte finish, no sheen
  • Cover only

Materials + Care

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Wash separately for the first few cycles: deep and saturated colours release a little dye at first. Do not bleach, do not dry clean.

Textured weaves such as seersucker, waffle and gauze are meant to look relaxed: they need no ironing, and they soften with every wash.

Shipping + Returns

Free shipping on orders over $99. Orders leave our warehouse within 1–2 business days, Monday to Friday. You'll get a tracking number as soon as it ships.

Free returns for 60 days. Sleep on it, literally. If it isn't right, start a return from your account and we'll send you a prepaid label. Items should come back in a re-sellable condition.

Wrong size? We'll exchange it, and we cover the shipping both ways.

The fabric

Washed cotton

Cotton that has been through the wash before you own it, so it arrives already soft.

Cotton, and why the staple matters

Cotton, and why the staple matters

Washing is done at the mill, on the finished cloth, with enzymes that break down the surface of the fibre very slightly. It takes the starch out and leaves a matte, chalky hand that new cotton never has.

Washed Cotton Duvet Cover, Pre-shrunk, so it stays your size

Pre-shrunk, so it stays your size

The wash also does the shrinking before the cloth is cut. A duvet cover that has not been pre-washed can lose two inches in its first cycle at home, which is how covers end up too small for the insert.

Out of the dryer, onto the bed

Out of the dryer, onto the bed

It comes out looking lived-in, which is the whole idea. Nothing to iron, nothing to fuss over. It softens a little more over the first year, then settles.

Questions about this fabric

Is washed cotton the same as linen?

No, but it borrows the part people want: the dry hand and the relaxed fall, without the first year of stiffness and without the price.

Will it keep shrinking?

It should not. The shrinking is done before the cloth is cut. Wash warm rather than hot and it will stay true.

Does it look wrinkled?

Softly, yes. It is meant to. If you want a smooth bed, choose percale or sateen.
